Hi,
I am using Sony Vegas studio to edit my movie, and when i preview the movie on my computer, you can hear the voice and the music, but once i have burned it on to a DVD and play it you can only her the music and not the voice, the picture comes out alright, but the voice doesnt.
Please let me know if there is anything i can do to fix this.
thanks

Are you saving your audio as AC-3 Dolby 5.1? Do you have 5.1 hardware on you pc? If your saving your project as AC-3 Dolby 5.1 (or even as MPEG2 along with audio), it might help to right click on the file (the voice file) and choose normalize. For each audio track on the left you have a volume control. Besides normalizing you can also raise the volume by setting points ont the audio file (they look like little blue squares - select create point). This way you can raise the volume from 0.0 db to +5.0, 6.0, etc... You'd better have a 5.1 speaker set to help you preview the result. Always watch for clips...

Sounds like you are getting only the rear channels. That was happening to me when I was transferring "Lost" from my PC to a VCR. I was hearing the 5.1 when I played it back because the audio is connected via S/PDIF to my receiver. But also the analog audio was connected to the VCR. I just had to set the audio output in the player software and problem solved. Perhaps your problem is similar.

Hi,
I have the same problem. I use Sony Vegas to edit my movie. When i burn to DVD the voice does not come out on the DVD player, however the music does.
The music is in mp3 and the voice is avi. All i do is click create movie and it renders the movie/audio e.t.c
I am getting very annoyed becasue i spent alot of money on my sony handycam and my editing software and i cant get expected results.
Please if someone could help me out with this problem so i can create a movie with some voice. -
Both the first and last poster seem to have the same problem, but neither answer Baldrick's question - how are you producing your DVD compliant structure ? Are you editing in Vegas, then authoring with DVD Architect ? Or do you output for authoring in a seperate package ?
I always output AC3 as a seperate, standalone file from Vegas, and have never had anything go missing that wasn't muted.I suggest you start by outputting seperate streams (mpeg-2 video and AC3 audio), authoring from these, then testing the DVD before you burn it to disk. If anything is missing you haven't wasted a burn. If it is not missing, then you have an issue with your player/amp/connections. Preferably, try to test it on an amp that can tell you how many and what channels it is receiving.Read my blog here.

hi,
what i do is edit the movie in Vegas and then click send to DVD architect, and follow the prompts and burn.
guns1inger you mentioned something bout output AC3 as a seperate standalone file from vegas and have never had a problem, how do i do that?
I really am greatful for you replying, if you could help me out with his MAJOR problem, ur a life savour! -
Encode you project in Vegas to MPEG2 (encode only the video stream). Then you can encode the AC-3 audio file. Give both files the same name, start DVDA and drag you video file into the screen (the audio file will go along with the video file); this way DVDA will create a button for you. It's very easy, you just have to follow these steps:
Start Vegas:
File>Render as>Save as Main Concept MPEG-2>Choose a Template (DVD Architect NTSC (or PAL) video stream>Make sure on audio tab that the box "include audio file" is unchecked.
When Main Concept finishes encoding the file, you can do this:
File>Render as> Save as Dolby Digital AC-3> Choose a template (this time hit custom)>another screen pops-up>Choose Stereo DVD or 5.1 Surround DVD>If you choose 5.1 leave everyhtin the way it is on both guides Audio Service and Bitstream>On hte next guide Ext. Bitstream, check the box enable extended bitstream information and choose Dolby Surround EX Encoded>On the next guide which is Preprocessing, check RF overmodulation protection. Now you have an AC-3 file and an MPEG2. Start DVDA and...good luck -
Hello
Thanks for your quick reply. Okay i had a look at what you said, and the thing is when i go file > there are no render as settings.
The only way it starts to render is if i clikc make movie, and then choose burn to dvd, it then renders and then goes straight to dvdA. It doesnt allow me to change any of the settings as you mentioned.
Sorry to be a pain, i dont know much about how this all works as you could prob already tell, and im totally lost if someone could help me that would be great -
Sorry to be a pain
What version is your software? It works exactly this way: Go to Vegas main menu bar>hit File> from the drop-down menu, choose "Render as".
Hope you understand that Vegas is not freeware. You may have a trial version, I don't know. -
I have got Sony Vegas Movie Studio 4.0. I understand that this software is not freeware, i actually went and brought this software from the shops and cost me alot 2.
Okay, i still am lost, when i go file, i have
-new project
-open project
-save project
-save project as
-make movie
-import media
-capture video
-get photo
-extract audio from CD
-get media from web
-project properties
-exit
those are the only options i have under the file menu.
Thanks for replying back so quick. -
I can't help you with Movie Studio, sorry, but I guess it should work this way: try to hit <make movie> and see if there are options such as MPEG-1; MPEG-2, etc...
One thing is certain: you'll not be able to render to AC-3.
Anyway, besides posting your topics here you can also post at:

This is the Movie Studio/Video Factory Forum.
You can download the manual here:
