  1. Is there any EASY way to compress .TS files into WMV-HD files? I saw some long procedure at AVSforum, but it was like gibberish to me, so if anyone here knows an easy way it would be much appreciated.

That article there is very technical, but it does result in outstanding looking material.

Consider converting it to XVID. That way, you can one button convert it with AutoGK .

  3. This might be a stupid question. I've used AutoGK to convert DVD to XVID. If I'm converting the .TS file to XVID, will I still be able to keep the AC3 sound if I choose to?

Also, do you have any suggestions on what would be a good compression rate for the files? Maybe is there like a certain size file per say hour or so to compress to?

Baldrick has it right, especially his recommendation of DGMpgDec-AviSynth-WMNicEnc

DGMpgDec -Demuxes the .TS into AC3 and M2v Files, creates .D2v file
AviSynth - Uses D2v file, resizes and filters source mpeg file
WMNicEnc - Encodes the AVISynth file to Windows Media

The above apps will give you a great looking final file. People are intimidated by AviSynth, but it is easy just to modify an existing script to work for you. AviSynth is probably the most powerful and cool video processing app out there.

Though it doesn't handle all TS files it seems...

    This one seems better: http://www.digital-digest.com/dvd/downloads/showsoftware_hdtvtompeg2_284.html
