    Helping my friend out here, he hasn't given me all the details of his prob, but this is what i know so far.

    He's trying to convert /compress a file with a *.ts extension to an avi/mpg format to no avail.

    I would like to know what's this transport stream format? Some kinda HDTV format? I dun use HDTV so I can't relate to it.

    Yes it's most likely a transport stream for a digital TV capture, and it can be either a Standard Definition or High Defintion capture.

    It contains an MPEG2 Video stream and Multiple Audio streams, so you need to use a tool such as PVAStrumento to demux the streams. Then you can use any of the usual encoding tools to convert it to whatever format you require.
