  1. Just wanted to see if anyone could reccomend an application that will convert a 720 x 480 AVI file (from Adobe Premiere, for example) to MPEG for DVD authoring. I realize that there are probably many programs available for this type of file conversion, but I'm curious as to which programs are considered the best for performing AVI to MPEG conversions, as I'm sure that some programs provide much better renderings than others. Premiere, for example, has an option to export a project to DVD, and although the feature seems to work fine, the video on the DVD appears awfully compressed. Ideally, I'd prefer a freeware program, however any reccomendations would be appreciated.

    Thanks!

I recommend CCE Basic. It is simple, fast and does a great job of converting avi to mpeg. It is not free but at $58 it is worth it. If you give the trial a spin be sure to download CCE Basic and not CCE SP. CCE SP is more full featured and costs way too much.

  3. Canopus Procoder Express, Mainconcept mpeg encoder, and even the lowly (and extremely slow) tmpgenc, will produce good quality mpegs.
