About 3 months ago I went to play one of my home dvds. While playing it froze. It was burned on one of the problematic printable prodiscs. I then went to rip it to burn to another dvd, but had a horrible time actually getting the files to copy to HD. I then went back and checked out all the dvds that were burned on the Prodisc as well as my Memorex batch. All have problems. When I first started out I only used Verbatim, then I had trouble finding them, so I went with Prodisc & Memorex. I now use only verbatim MCC & Fuji TY.

would storing on drives be over kill?

  2. Burn two copies. One to play, the other for permanent storage.
    Much cheaper than hard drives

The only reason to backup to HD, is for any very, very, very, un-recreatable information. Otherwise reformat those HDs and use them for other important info. Beware of those who disagree, they may have financial interests in companies that manufacture external HDs because boy are they making money on you.

Not really, I got some sweet deals on the drives. 3 Seagates. 1/200GB for $40 after rebates & 2/160GB for $65(for both, not each) after rebates.
