    Background
I am using a ATI AIW 9600 to transfer VHS home videos to DVD. For those who don't know, an AIW card interfaces with a sound card's audio input in order to capture the audio. I've been using on-board audio for this, but it's been struggling...so I've been thinking of the Chaintech AV710.

    My Question
I am a newb when it comes to capturing to my PC (I've done very few captures thus far), but what I wonder about is this quote taken from the review linked above:
At the heart of this card is the 24-bit Envy HT-S chip seen below. This chip is almost identical to those used in the high end cards built by the likes of Creative Labs, the only real difference is that when doing analog recording, you are limited to rates of 20bits/96KHz. The much more expensive cards containing the HT chip can go as high as 24bits/198KHz...
Sooo.....do I need a card capable of the higher recording rate mentioned, or is "20bits/96KHz" enough for my VHS-to-DVD project (w/out losing quality)? Thanks!

What would be the highest I'd want to encode at?
