  1. I have a director .exe that launches a .bat file which is supposed to launch the DVD video on the DVD. On WinDVD 4 the player launches and plays fine by calling the "\VIDEO_TS\VIDEO_TS.IFO" file. But on other machines running other players the video does not start. Even on older versions of InterVideo.
Does anyone know what file exactly the DVD player is looking for? Does anyone know where to find the default player listed? Is it consistent in the registry and if so where? I would prefer to just call the file in the VIDEO_TS folder as that will take less work.

    Thanks

I think the best option is to point the player to the drive containing the DVD - that's how a DVD is played.
I don't think you should assume that a computer has a DVd player soft installed - much less that the ".ifo" extension is associated with anything. What you could do, is to include some lightweight DVD player on the disc - maybe Media Player Classic?

  3. The issue with pointing to the DVD drive is we have an auto launcher which offers the user the option of installing a game or playing the DVD. This auto launcher (.exe) is where we call the command to start the DVD.

Well, why couldn't your exe start your "bundled" DVD player soft, with the right command line parameter(s) to start playing the disc it's launced from?

  5. ok so know comes the stupid question. Do you know the commands to launch the media player with the DVD and with the menu parameters. Also, do you know if you can legally distribute the player?

I don't know the media player classic licensing model, but I'm sure you can find it at its home page.
Available cli parameters are shown using the DOS command "mplayer /h"
