    type

    ipconfig /all

that will give you the name (host name), like so

    Code:
    Windows IP Configuration

    Host Name . . . . . . . . . . . . : Workbench
    Primary Dns Suffix . . . . . . . :
    Node Type . . . . . . . . . . . . : Hybrid
    IP Routing Enabled. . . . . . . . : No
    WINS Proxy Enabled. . . . . . . . : No

Get a hold of the excellent set of network tools 'Net Tools' from http://users.pandora.be/ahmadi. It contains a wide variety of very useful tools. (I use them frequently)

There are two good programs in the set that you can use.
One is 'IP Address Scanner' which you supply an IP range and it will scan the range and report hits and names for each existing address.
The other is 'Resolve Host & IP' for which you just enter an IP address on your LAN and it will return the Name.

This of course relies on you having the necessary network permissions to do the scans.

It would be a pretty sloppy ITnazi who did not already have this info - sounds like "make work" for a newby to me.
