Hi guys.
I got some scratched up older DVDs that i want to make backups of before my kids make them totally unplayable.
I am running into read errors with CloneDVD and DVDShrink. Whats a good DVD rip tool that can compensate for the scratches. SmartRip failed to get a copy on a couple of DVDs.
thanks for the help.

I second that. When DVDdecrypter encounters a disk error on read, it attempts retries. After it gets to a certain number of unsuccessful retries, it gives you the option of continuing to retry or to skip that particular spot on the DVD and move to the next ... and so on. That "retry" option has come in useful on a number of backups.Originally Posted by johns0
It's pretty much what a DVD player does only more transparent. When a DVD player starts playing, you're actually watching buffered data. And if the player encounters a disk error, it attempts to re-retrieve the data ... while you're still watching the buffered data. Sometimes, a number of errors will be on a DVD but you won't see them because the player has compensated for them via retries.

I had one a couple of days ago that decrypter just kept choking on. I used ISO buster to get an image onto the HDD, however it was unplayable in PowerDVD due to corruption in the intro clips. Shrink wouldn't load it either. I thought I was screwed, however I loaded up rejig and was able to extract the main movie out of the remnants.
