I have a network between 2 computers, all wired. The oeprating systems are Windows XP Home and Windows 98SE. They used to work great but over the years people have tried thing with the network and it is royally fucked now.
Lately, if you type in the name of the computer you can get it to come up but it won't appear in the "Network Neighborhood" or "My Network Places." You can see in your computer thorugh there but you can't other computers. I can still print but it is extreme slow.
How can I reset the network setting on both computers back to the default? They use to work great

You can try to reinstall both network drivers. Then go to the Network Connections and properties the TCP/IP. On one computer put 10.0.0.1 (or 192.168.0.1) in the ip area, and 10.0.0.2(or 192.168.0.2) on the other. Also 255.255.255.0 on both PC's at subnet mask. No other options like gateway or DNS. Restart . Hope to work for you. My 2 computer network is based only on these options and have no problems with it.

Thanks for the suggestion. I'll have to try it when I have the time. The Windows XP computer isn't mine though and I don't know where the driver disks are for it. I'm already using the "192" IP addresses and the default subnet mask. I don't know what other setting mayhave been played with.
The network drivers in my computer are known for getting screwed I don't know why. I'll get mine redone first and then go searching for the driver disk for the other.
