  1. My boss has a recital of his kid's copied from a VHS-C tape to a DVD+RW in a DVD-VR booktype disc (about 10 minutes of video). (Directory includes VIDEO_RM and VIDEO_TS... _RM is empty and generates an error simply if you click on it.)

Anyway, while the DVD-VR does seem to work on my bosses regular DVD player and works on one of two of my PC DVD burners (playback that is), I cannot for the life of me seem to copy it. (I am not a newbie at DVD backup either -- this is quite perplexing.) I figured I should be able to just copy the file structure to my HDD and burn it back out using CopyToDVD, but windows fails to read one of the VOBs early on (cyclic redundancy check error). DVD Decrypter craps out on it as well. If I skip errors, a good chunk of the video gets skipped as well.

What is up with this? Did the photo shop that did the conversion from VHS-C to DVD actually put some kind of copy protection on this disc? Frankly, I consider it that he paid for a CONVERSION of the tape to disc, not just for a single 'locked up' copy of the disc. That shop wanted $40 per copy of the disc beyond the first copy, which is deplorable.

Anyway, I also redid the conversion from the VHS-C tape for him, but the tape at this point is very worn out and the quality was less than the older copy made by the service (months back).

    Any help is appreciated.

  2. If you are running Windows XP, sometimes there is a problem "seeing" the VRO files on VR format discs. Here's what worked for me - try downloading the trial version of Cyberlink PowerProducer 2.0 (if you can find it). It has a .dll file or something in it that seems to fix this problem, even after the trial period runs out. Your other video software applications will "see" the files, too.

Try to download version 2.0 from here:
