i have an 8 dvd set of neon genesis. i want to back them up to only 4 or 5 dvds (b/c each is like 3gig). anyways,

when i open up -> create new project -> add dvd video, i pick the video_ts folder and only tracks 2-4 show up for me to select.

problem - track 1 is the 3 episodes.

i've tried reauthoring just track 1 in dvdshrink and also creating the ifos using ifoedit. when i try again in dvd author i get no tracks to select.

does anyone have any ideas on how i can reauthor these videos since i can't "see" the tracks?

Use dvdshrink to reauthor and drag one titleset at a time to its own separate folder and then open each folder with tmpgenc dvd author.
    I think,therefore i am a hamster.

that's what i tried, title 1 is just over 1hr (3 episodes), all i did was drag title 1 over and under the compression settings selected only 1 audio. told me analysis wasn't necessary. so i backuped.

when i tried reading my newly reauthored dvd, dvdauthor gave me no title selections, there should have been one.

i tried nero digital - reauthoring, and "shrinking", and nero seems to see track 1 (the 4 episodes are on track 1). after "creating" a new dvd with the video it plays just fine.

but tmpgenc still won't read it.

ulead sees it, but won't recode it because it has dolby digital audio.

any other ideas besides turning them to divx, then back to mpg?

does anyone have any reasons on how to do this (or why tmpgenc dvd aurthor won't see it?

Use DVDDecrypter to extract the a/v streams you want from the titles you want. Then author those a/v streams with TDA. Going via AVI (especially DivX/XviD) is not a good idea. Neither is using a Video DVD as input to the authoring process...

rather than file mode in dvddecryptor, use the ifo mode instead? (i'll have to play around with it after work).

Don't have DVDDecrypter here at work, but I think it's IFO mode yes. Then tell DVDDecrypter to demux the audio and video streams you want, from the titles you want, and use these when authoring your new DVD.

ok, i've tried the ifo mode, selected only the mail movie title as the input, and click on the "stream processing" tab. i've tried all 3 - direct stream copy, demux, and raw. tmpgenc dvd author can't open the ifo file.

maybe i'm not doing it right? - i keep getting 4 vob files, an ifo, and a txt file. is it supose to decrypt to something like an ac3 and mp2 or something like that?

You have to highlight the stream (video or audio) then click the demux radio button, then repeat for each stream that you wan't. Then click the process button. You should end up with one video file (.mpv, probably) and one or more audio files (dpending on what you selected. If it is AC3 then the extension will be .AC3)

thanks, that's what i was doing wrong - had to click demux for each stream.

    so i get:
    .m2v (~3gig)
    .ac3 (~133mb)

when i use these in tmpgenc dvd author, they are recognized, but exist for 1 frame in the chapter edit tab, not the 1.5 hours it should. (just for laughs, i tried it in tmpgenc and same thing - 0min, 1 sec.)

now i'm completely confused. - what would cause a video file to not exist in the eyes of these programs? what gets me too is creating new ifo files for the original vobs doesn't help anything - the first title is "not seen" (but the commercials and menu are seen - titles 2-4). this is the only dvd set i have ever seen that has done this to me.
