Finding that the subtitles aren't running synchronously with the DVD video, I decided to extract a few chapters from the DVD(video, audio and subtitles being ripped), synchronize the subtitles with the video and audio using SubTitle Workshop, and multiplex them to obtain the new VOB file having the correctly synchronized subtitles.

So, I performed the above operations in the following 7 step method

Step 1: Ripped Audio, Video and Subtitles from DVD to a folder using DVD Decrypter - output is .IFO file, .VOB file and a txt file describing the chapters and timings

Step 2: Opened .IFO file(that is ripped from DVD) using SubRip software & converted it into .srt file

Step 3: Opened the .srt file (obtained in step2) using Subtitle Workshop,
edited and synchronized the subtitles, and saved the file in the same format(.srt).

Step 4: Converted the .srt file obtained in step 3 to .sup using srt2sup software.

Step 5: Demuxed the ripped .VOB file of DVD(obtained in step 1) using VobEdit to get a video (*.m2v) file, an audio (*.ac3) file and subtitle (*.sup) file(s).

Step 6: Authored the DVD using IFOEdit - Here the subtitles used are the one's obtained from VobEdit and the one's synchronized from step 3 together.

Step 7: Played the DVD folder(consisting the multiplexed new .VOB file) using WinDVD Platinum

Now, in my last step, I failed miserably, coz, the DVD folder isn't playing in WinDVD.

Thinking that the .VOB file obtained in step 6 is not working properly, I thought it's a problem with the IFOEdit software, so, this time used DVD Author(in ReJig) to perform the multiplexing of video, audio and subtitles.

Even now, when I specified the destination folder(where the multiplexed new .VOB file is present) to WinDVD, it isn't playing the movie.

Surprisingly, when I double-clicked the newly created .VOB file and opened it with WinDVD, the movie is playing but with no audio, and no subtitles. This is weird. This has drawn me to a conclusion that the .m2v, .ac3, and .sup file(s) are not properly multiplexed with either IfoEdit or ReJig.

Please pick out the mistakes in my process of editing (or synchronizing) subtitles and authoring the DVD from these edited subtitles along with the previously demuxed .m2v and .ac3 file(s).

  2. I would try to multiplex with muxman at step 6. Be carefull with subtitle color palete to match this one from srt2sup and the one in the original ifo.
