  1. I am relatively new to video capture. I am attempting to move my VCR library to DVD. In the process of doing this I have been successful with about 15 conversions so far. I am using an HP multimedia PC. I am also using a Hitachi VCR. After thinking that I had the process worked out I started having a problem with some of my Videos. I am really bummed because I am having the problem with all of my Star Trek videos. The problem is that I am getting great sound but the video flashes on for a few seconds and then goes black for about 30 seconds. It continues to repeat this pattern. Is this a copy write problem? Is there a software solution? BTW I am using an upgrade of WinDVD to do the capture. Again, this has worked great for the first 15 copies or so.

Sopunds like MV protection, I wouldn't doubt it with a commercial tape. What capture card are you using?

I purchased an HP Multimedia computer. The capture card is built in. I am currently connecting via s-vidio, I think.

It's going to be a specific brand, HP doesn't make capture cards, matter of fact there's probably not a single thing in your computer manufactured by HP.

Anyhow without knowing what card I or know one else can give you any pointers for that specific card. If you follow the link Lordsmurf posted it will provide info on other external alternatives.

  5. Try using an inexpensive Sima Copy This filter in between your vcr signal and computer. These little boxes can be found in the $40 dollar range- sometimes locally. Check around for Sima.
