  1. I produce DVDs as part of my video production company, and have been using DVDit! with a Lite-On LDW-851S DVD+/-RW on Taiyo Yuden inkjet printable (hub) DVD-Rs.

I've had excellent success with my current (though, low-end) workflow. DVDs come off good quality, and play well on all types of system (set top and computer).

Recently, I did a complete wipe and reinstall of the system after completing a project. Everything is now updated again, and the system is all operating.

I played a previously produced, final copy DVD (and another one produced a month or two before on Memorex (Prodisc) discs). Trying them in multiple programs (Sonic CinePlayer, Microsoft Media Player 10), and different drives on the same system (one the Lite-On, the other a Pioneer) and I get strange blocks of discolorment.

Then, after that, I got some rainbow discoloration in some places that disappear after pausing and restarting the DVD.

Does anyone have any idea what could be causing these problems?

But why the same problem with two completely different discs at different times, with the problem showing up at the exact same time? Just some kind of strange coincidence?

This could be a "bad install" or a "bad" MPEG-2 codec itself

Please try re-installing that DVD Playback software (after uninstalling first)
if this doesn't fix it, try putting in WIN DVD or POWER DVD for the 1st time..betcha that'll fix it cause you're using quality stuff

Well, I had a disk with Win DVD 4 on it, which I hadn't bothered to reinstall after my system wipe. I went ahead and did so, as per your recommendation (didn't reinstall the other stuff first).

The DVD worked absolutely flawlessly in Win DVD. I then immediately tried it in one of the other programs (Windows Media Player 10, this time) and it still had issues. I had no idea there was such a difference in quality between the two programs.

    Thanks! Your bet was right...

I'll do a reinstall of the other programs, and see if they work. As long as my hardware and discs are safe, I'm ok 8) .
