Hey guys!! I have a problem w/ quicktime 7 (free downloadable version from APPLE) and I got a movie that is in AVI format.

But,, when I click the movie that is in AVI format the Quicktime7 opens and a window pops up saying:

Some necessary Quicktime software is missing. It may be avaliable on the Quicktime website.
If you have dialup connection to the internet, make sure it is actve, then click the continue button to check for the software.
    ----------

Then if I click the contunue button it takes me here:
    http://www.apple.com/quicktime/resources/components.html
    ----------

What am I missing guys? I can tell you that the movie opens up in quicktime, and then when I hit PLAY it only has sound, and it sounds like it is a skipping CD or something. As for Picture. I have no picture what so ever.

So if anyone know or has a guess on what I need, please post? Thanks a bunch all!

  2. Im no expert, but AVI files need different codec to decode them and there are lots of them for this file type. in the distant past when I had this problem sometimes Dixiv would work but after you converted them

don't remember how I did this, but if you go to the divix site, maybe you will find something

also there was a freee avi to qt convter way back that sometimes worked best look vor that in versiontracker

good luck but lots of avi with different codexcx won't work with qt

hope this is a start for you

If you can open it in Qt, then do a control I, and then tell us what type of file it is, ie: what audio and video codecs were used, AVI is just a container. Otherwise do a get info comand in Xine player or VLC.

But let me just say this. I downloaded VLC and installed it to my desktop. Now the movie works w/ VLC. Thanks a bunch man!! Made my day. Now I like to know what I can do to convert this AVI to work on my home dvd players and not just on my MAC. Any suggestions? Easy software perferd.
    Thanks

You have to give us EVERYTHING in the Command I
info window to be able to help you.
Just saying "all it said was AVI"
means that we can't point you in the direction of
getting you software to transcode it into a usuable QT based format.

Go back to the avi, get info and following the attached picture,
give us everything shaded in RED:

Once you post that info back,
we'll be able to point you to CODECS you will need
to get the file transcoded so you can put it on a DVD.

you have to use the "post Reply" button,
    not the "quick reply" button.
in your posting use [img]https://www.videohelp.com/forum/images/guides/p1305787/ and then
    use [/img]
and in between them put the name of your .jpg
    or .gif file file.
    Then, below where you post,
    there is an uplink
button, upload your image using that.
once the image is uploaded here,
    it will automatically display
    where the string is.
