Seems that the Doom9 site is also plagued with overwhelming traffic. I read that he receives over 23,000 visitors daily.
He is alternating his traffic between two servers with mixed results: one cannot be guaranteed the site's information is current.
Isn't this to be expected? As computers become ever faster and more and more users delve into video, sites such as Doom9 and VCD Help will only become more popular. Unmitigated, the sites will flounder and be less accessable and deteriorate into uselessness.
A good analogy is that of a golf course. It is a given that a course can only handle so many golfers in one day. If the green's fee is too low (free in this case),then when one arrives to play a round there will be a long wait (slow connection times). When one finally tees off, there will be a long wait for the group(s) ahead before one can play their next shot. Eventually the course is downtrodden by the hackers, maintenance is unable to keep up, and the course closes.
...have to go 'struggle for the legal tender' now. More later.
