  1. Hi.
My mother just bought her first pc at the ripe old age 0f 71 and
she's just waiting to be connected to the super highway. The pc
was only a ton and it's a tiny with a 14gb hd and 64 ram.
She only wants it for the internet so i suppose it's a start, when
she said tiny i was like no no but she went ahead and bought it
    from a close friend.
Now i want to put XP on it but i'm not sure if its a easy to do on a tiny
as in my own pc which was bought and made to order from Infiniti PCs.
I tried to format a friends dell pc and had to use the discs that came
with the pc not the method i use on my own.

    Questions..
Can a tiny pc be loaded with windows xp straight from the disc, can it
be formated by just inserting the disc and going the format and load
    straight off the disc.
Parts....to upgrade the ram do i need to by tiny parts, the pc is all oringinal tiny nothing added since new or do most pc shops sell parts
    to suit a tiny.

My mother lives 30 miles from me so i want a good idea what i need to
    do before i get there.

I do a know a bit about pcs myself but have never owned a tiny.

    thanks

Is tiny a brand, or merely some street slang for an old PC?

I think that the minimum requirement for XP is 233Mhz and 64M ram (I would go with at least 128 to be safe). If you have that, then it will install, no problem. To upgrade the ram, simply find out what kind of memory it uses and get more (I had one with only one slot, so I had to replace rather than add).

  3. It's a (unfortunately popular) UK brand.
    Go here http://support.tiny.com/support/
type in the first 5 numbers of the serial, and it will give you some answer about all the hardware in that box.

Upgrade her RAM to 256 MINIMUM for XP, or install Windows 95/98.

  8. Any 184 pin SDRAM should work. Doesn't have to be PC66.

    Install Win98 on that machine.

Mom won't notice the difference, trust me. My 81 year old mother-in-law has her internet PC, an ancient 333mhz with 128Mb ram, and a measely 4Gb HDD. She'd be lost if I were to even think about installing winXP on that device. Win98 is just fine for her surfing, email, and chatting habits as I'm sure your mother will do fine with this and her software/hardware conflicts will be minimized due to the OS not being bogged down with the limited resources these older PCs have.

It took almost three months for her to understand mouse movement functionality, but she's now quite good at what she enjoys.
