  1. i encoded an avi w/ winavi (something quick, not picky about quality unless its an actual dvdr) in widescreen format then i burned it. i tried to play it in my standalone, and the picture was squished into a fullscreen format, so i went and checked it in the puter and it played in widescreen. oh yeah theres no aspect control on either the tv or the dvd. what am i doing wrong? is it in the encoding where im messin up, or am i just gonna feel really stupid when i get the answer? thanx to all who take the time to help. -Props

  2. If you have no aspect control you are screwed up. That means you must encode 4:3.

So you are playing an avi on a DivX/avi standalone? If so it sounds like it uses an ESS chipset.

  5. actually ive tried a couple of diff aps, winavi, dvdsanta, nerovision. but the thing is its not always squishing the pic, some come out fine when i play em on the standalone dvd. the others i just cant figure out why they would come out in a squished fullscreen aspect, they all started as a widescreen avi. thanx guyz. -props
