  4. What if the avi is a DV500 avi (from a DV camcorder).
1.2a has no problem to open the same avi. 2.02 just crash.

I have the latest version of tnpenc and windows xp, I also have a hard time opening divx files, I would say 1 out of 6 maybe will open, when I used the older version of tmpenc and windows ME I could open just about all of them, unless they were damaged, It's not abig deal as I usually convert them to avi so I can edit them and strip the sound before encoding to prevent sync problems, but I was curious as to why.

  6. if you have problems opening up DV or SVCD install the MPEG-2 codec

    http://www.dvd-wizards.com/vcdhelp/mpeg2codec_installer.zip

if you have problems opening up AVI's - install the latest DivX codec or kristal pack

    http://www.divx-digest.com/software/divxcodec4.html
    http://www.dvd-wizards.com/vcdhelp/kscodecsv433.zip

TMPGEnc 12x whatever being *better* than the 2.0+ is 'Internet Urban Legend' - just install the correct codec's and move on...

@Pinoy: I think suggesting http://www.divx-digest.com is better than the divx.com for most people - it's easier to navigate and find the software/codec's your looking for - just a suggestion since your a new moderator and might be suggesting a lot of URL's ....

  8. Thnax Stinky but i think giving the origanl website is much better so the WebMaster know that people are comeimg to his site and get encourge to make more codecs

I never said the older version was better, and I don't know if the problem is tmpenc or it's interaction with windows xp, and I always keep up with the latest codecs.
Like I stated, it really is not that big a problem for me as most of the divx files I deal with, which isn't that many thank god, have damage, corrupted or dropped frames, etc. So I usually convert then using vdub and huffuv and do my editing. I was just curious.

And BTW, if you try and install the kristal pack, ver 4.3.3, under windows XP you get a big warning that you are about to install an incompatible program to windows XP that could cause severe problems.
