  1. Would someone please tell me where to find the help files for TMPGEnc. For some reason mine has the Contents and Search grayed out. And I can't seem to figure out what exactly I need to do with this. Please Help!?!?

  2. http://www.vcdhelp.com/tmpgencexplained.htm has some info. To be honest I can't remember if the help/search features every worked in TMPGenc as I've never used it

Also look at Sefy's Newbie guide, as it's TMPGenc section is pretty good. Short answer:

    1) Click on Load and choose a template (VCD or SVCD). NTSC = USA, Japan, and Canada. PAL = Europe

    2) Click input and load video/audio source. Name output file.

    3) Hit run, wait.

  3. Ok, just how long exactly does it take when you use TMPGEnc to encode a file? This thing if it is working properly, is going to take hours!!!! Is that what it is supposed to do? Should it really take that long? It is telling me something like 20 hours and something remaining!!!!!

  4. ENCODING DOES TAKE A WHILE DEPENDING ON HOW MUCH YOU ARE ENCODING WHEN I WAS ENCODING DVD MOVIES IT TOOK ALMOST 5 TO 6 HOURS TO ENCODE A 2.5 HOUR MOVIE YA ITS NOT REAL FAST ALSO I WOULD RUN A LITTLE BIT AND CHECK IT BEFORE SPENDING ALL THAT TIME YA KNOW WHAT I MEAN....

  5. Well how did it only take you 5 to 6 hours to do a 2.5 hour movie? That is about what this one it too, and it is telling me 20 something hours remaining. And how did you stop and run it to check it and start it again, without having to start all over? This file claims to be an mpg. but when I go to burn it to the vcd it acts like it isn't. So is this the only thing I can do with it, run it in TMPGEnc first to burn it to a vcd?

  6. Speed of Encoding highly depends on two things, your software and your CPU speed, reasons:
    1) Old TMPGEnc is not optimized, newer ones are, always try to use the latest version
    2) All Encoding is done in CPU, so the faster it goes, the more speed you'll get!

The file needs to be Vcd compliant.Check the helpful stuff to the left to guide you through this process.

Anyways,I encode my mpg's and other video file's overnight.I ripped Final Fantasy : TSW and it took around 5-6 hours as well. But doing overnight, you wont notice a thing. Also,it might take you even more if you have say,32MB of ram.And dont even try doing anything else WHILE encoding (listening to mp3's,watching OTHER video)cus it'll just slow you down (just a bit).

  9. Well ok guys, I went ahead and did it! I tried to encode that mpg in TMPGEnc, and now the file is twice its size and I have NO sound!! What did I do wrong now? Please tell me I don't have to encode the whole things all over again. It took all night and into this morning to finish. I did preview it while it was encoding, and noticed then I had no sound, but I didn't know if this was just something that the program did while it was encoding or not, so I left it alone to finish its job. So now what? Man this stuff is confusing!! But hey, I am giving it my best!! Thanks guys for all your help!! : ) oh and as far as my cpu, it is a 550mhz AMD K6-2 with 320 megs of ram. So is that good enough?

It would help if we knew what your source was, too...some divx require some extra work. If this is your problem, do a forum search on "no audio" and see what comes up.

  12. Ok, guys, just for the fun of it I am going to try and burn it to a vcd anyway, and see what happens, but hey, how do I split the file, it won't fit on one cd?

  13. I am a total rookie at this and i am just beginning to learn this stuff but i had the same problem as you, in that i had no sound after encoding. I could not find a resolution to this problem anywhere in this site but i did figure one out. Dont know if this will work for you but it did for me. Using Virtual-Dub load the AVI. On VIDEO pick DIRECT STREAM COPY. On AUDIO pick FULL PROCESSING MODE. Then under FILE pick SAVE AS AVI. Use this file to encode.

  14. Ok, its me again, now tell me..... I now have a file twice the size it was before , with no audio, so......... first of all, do I have to encode the entire file again to add the audio back in? and how do I split this file?? I have read and read these posts and searched it, but unless you have done it at least once or twice before, when you open these programs, you don't have a clue what things should be set at or how they should look. Please tell me I don't have to encode this entire file again to add the audio back in???
