Does ulead dvd movie factory 4 disc creator re-encode video.
Y have mpeg2 files and y want just to make dvd menu without re-encoding.
So, question is, does dvd movie factory 4 work re-enkoding or not?
thanks

I'm not quite sure that it does or does not. However I want to make a comment if everyone will allow me. I think sometimes people missuderstand what it's actually going on when a dvd project is writen. It may look as if it is being reencoded and it might even say so as it is rendering out to VIDEO_TS .If you MPG2 files are fully complient, it still has to rewrite them as part of the project as .vob. SO in rality it is simply rewriting it to the final form that a dvd player can understand. This is an over simplified explanation, I understand.
Now, if you put in AVIs say into an Adobe Encore project, it will re-encode to MPG2 before it writes the DVD. If you begin with MPG2 it will simply reqrite the MPG2 as a vob.
Im most authoring , DVD producing packages, you should see an option to NOT re-encode, but remember the diference between the two.No DVD can withstand the power of DVDShrink along with AnyDVD! -
MovieFactory 4.0 DC can use compliant mpeg's "asis" (no re-encoding).
As mentioned, it will go through the muxing and stuff when preparing the dvd, but it won't re-encode the mpeg videos...
p.s. MF4 has an option to use slightly out-of-spec source files without re-encoding -- like a VCD that has a higher bitrate than normal vcd bitrates, or SVCD mpegs for DVD, etc...George -
y use default settings in ulead 4 when y making menu.
One my film has 1 our and 50 minutes. And y make just menu, it tooks 15 minutes to make vob files.
So y think that ulead 4 dont work re-endoding.If y am wrong correct me
P.S does dvd lab work re-ecnoding or not when put mpeg2 files
thanks -
well, lets put it this way. Depending on your machine's speed, given 1 hour and 50 minutes of video, if DVD MF was re-encoding it would take at at least 1 hour and 50 minutes to re-encode, and then some time to build the dvd files. I would guess it would take even longer than 1 hour and 50 minutes to re-encode.
I am pretty certain that if it only took about 15 minutes to build the dvd folders, that it is NOT re-encoding
p.s. dvd lab doesn't have a builtin encoder for video, so you can be certain it will not re-encodeGeorge -

If it was re-encoding, it could take hours to build your dvd folders (given the 1 hour and 50 minute video you are talking about).George
