Xvid Conversion

Using Vdub to encode MPEG2 to XviD avi's, There are 2 XviDs shown in my compression list. one is xvid.dll and 'yxsomethingsomething'.dll . Doesn't matter which one I choose, when I start encoding, there's an error message saying 'stats file cannot be found or something like that' and 'operation cannot be done' or something along those lines. I checked, I DO have Xvid codec installed (should be correct).

XviD.dll is devapi3. What you should have is XviDVfW.dll.

About the error though. Sounds like you are doing a 2nd pass without running a 1st pass to create the stats file.

And oh yeah, what's with this 1st pass, 2nd pass thing? what's it for?

ok went to check, it seems the difference between the two xvid options i have is the FOURCC code. One being 'xvid' the other being 'yv12'. What's that?

And I see the option of like simple, simple L0something, and many others similar to that. What are those? And of course the 1st pass thingy.

YV12 is there to make sure that XviD handles YV12 decoding, for say loading AVISynth scripts. Personally I used the Helix YV12 codec.

The deal is, you run the 1st pass, then the 2nd.

Those are different MPEG4 profiles. Don't remember devapi3 having profiles though. You sure it doesn't say xvidvfw.dll?

Shouldn't matter. I would use the XVID one though, mainly because I have a different codec installed to handle YV12.

Unrestricted, unless you need VBV, etc.

XviD is an ASP MPEG-4 video codec. If you don't want/need MPEG4, don't use XviD.
