okay i understand this sounds very bizzare but at school we are trying to install quicktime pro. we have final cut pro accademic and therefore have QT pro for QT 5. we had updated to 6 a few months back and had never installed pro (i didn't realize it wasn't on there till recently). so now i need to unistall 6 so i can install 5 and get the pro abilties.

how do i go about removing Quick time 6 to install Quick time pro 5.

    thanks

The QuickTime 6 Installer should have an Uninstall option in the Custom section.

Is that 6.3 installer a webinstaller (<1 MB) or the full stand-alone installer (>15 MB) ? Maybe the former doesn't get the right feedback from the server anymore, now that v7 is out. Maybe you even need the same version installer as your current QT version.

Go to Apple.com and seach for Quicktime 5 installer.

searching must be becoming a lost art....

if it were me, the reason I would pay again is to be able to use qt6 or qt7. Both play and encode with better efficiency and more current codecs.

Quicktime 5 Pro is not good enough for FINAL CUT and
DVD productions as it cannot accept the MPEG-2 component to allow MPEG-2/4 encoding and playback.
You'll need to pay again unless you're making lo-res quicktime movies for games or such, as the PRO freatures of QT5 are marginal in your case

If they are using FCP 2 and or DVDSP 1.5,
then QT Pro 5 is okay, I know, I used them.

but yes, for current apps, you have to be
QT Pro 6.02 or better, especially for current
( read: speed of) MPEG-2 encoding.

FCP 3 was right on the cusp of QT 6's release, so version 5
should still work, but you will be a little slower on
    MPEG-2 encoding/handling.

Don't quote me on this --- but Quicktime is an intergral part of OSX. If you are running any reasonably current version of OSX, it probably wont support qt5.
    I could be wrong though.
If you registered with Apple when you first installed qt5 pro, maybe you can contact them to help you re-install qt5.
Or, have you tried to install qt5 from your original FCP3 install discs?

    -- good luck.
