In trying to find the optimal quality for my home vid captures, I have a couple of questions for other fellow AIW users (and, yes, I've read L.S.'s guides)...

    Your Settings
    1. What do you set your windows audio recording/input level at?
    2. What is your preferred capture settings (resolution, bit rate, VBR or CBR, etc.) for 1 home video tape (standard 2 hr length) to fit on 1 single-layer DVD?

    Other
    3. I can't get dropped frames counter to show with MMC 8.7...is this only available in some other version?
    4. Same with Video Soap...was that put in in a later version?
    __
If you can give feedback on any of this I'd appreciate it. Thanks.

I actually have read both of those links, ddawson24. I'm just interested in some other opinions on the questions posed above.

I think I've answered 1 of my questions....video soap should be available on 8.x on up...I'm not sure why I can't find it on my install...maybe it's because I only installed the tv app and nothing else (no media bar, dvd play back, cd, vid cd, etc). I'll have to check further at home.

Well, I got a chance to look at my settings. Video Soap...is there, but it's greyed out (unavailable). I'm wondering if this is because I installed ONLY the TV module when I set this up?

In case anyone was following this....apparantly, AMD64 CPUs have a conflict of some sort with older versions of MMC, whereby video soap will not work and appears grayed out. To solve you need to update to version 9.0 or higher. Going to try this now...

    Anitract,

I'm running two AMD64 3200+ systems, one with an AIW 9600XT and the other with an AIW 32mg DDR. One is running 8.7 and the other is running 8.8....both have videosoap working just fine.
    Have a good one,

    neomaine

Interesting...well, I found that info out in ATI's knowledgebase...strange indeed. I guess I'll know for sure tonight when I test it out. Thanks for the input.
