  1. I have an avi file with video length of 02h:15m:17s. When i extract the audio with either virtualdub, nandub, virtualdubmod, sony vegas or goldwave the resultant wav file is only 02h:15m:09s. I think this is too short because after authoring the audio is out of sync. I have solved this problem in the past by extracting the audio with tmpgenc which produces a longer duration wav file, however it will not work in this case as the source audio is ac3. It will produce a wav file of the correct length with no sound. Just wondered if anyone has overcome this problem in the past and knows how to deal with it. Have to admit i spat my dummy out and deleted the avi file in question, but it would be nice to have a solution should i encounter the same problem again. Thanks in advance.

    Try using mplayer to extract.

You don't tell us what the original AVI source was.

This problem occurs when a chapter which contains say, the FBI warning, is not ripped with the original, but the audio TIMING starts with that warning.

Anyway, just EXTRACT the .AC3 file, then use HEADAC3HE to convert to .WAV. If the original was properly in sync, then the extracted .WAV or whatever format you select, should be in sync.

  4. Usually I load the avi file in GSpot to look for delay in interleaving.
