  1. The place I work for just had a website set up for them via a carpet company we recently allied with. The thing is coded in java (which I'm unhappy about since I'm not fond of java and it's security issues) and only displays correctly in IE not in Firefox for me at least. Anyone care to visit the site in Firefox or Opera and see if you get the same results? The main things I've noticed so far are the banners near the top not lining up in the frames correctly and my administrative links at the bottom are overlapped by the other links.

Thanks for any input in advance. It a pain having to tell a proffesional web design company how to do their jobs.

  3. yep this is a pain. I'm going to have to raise hell with then I guess. A lot of people are using FF now and a site that doesn't work universally in all browsers is unacceptable IMO. Even Microsofts sites work fine in FF. You'd think if any sites wouldn't work it would be theirs.

I am using 1.04 and get the overlapping links as well.

We have a similar problem on our intranet with poorly coded DHTML.

Same here. Pretty over the top to use Java for just some hyperlinks.

  7. I know it's rediculous. I hope this is a free part of aligning with Shaw. If not I'll tell the boss to get his money back. I can build him a basic site for free, not that we need one anyway since all our business is local and very few of our customers know how to turn on a PC. :P

  9. I just installed Opera and tried it. The links are no longer overlaid but the banner are still not framed correctly. Look like someone favors IE.

  11. Thats the one that opens the link in IE isn't it? If so thats still not gonna fix the problem. I have no problem using it for other peoples sites that don't care to make them universally compliant, but since this is MY store's site I'm trying to do my best to make it possible for anyone using any browser to see it fine natively without having to use extensions. I've already emailed the guy running the site for us. When the boss get's back from his cruise I'll have a word with him on it.

  13. Yeah it's annoying. You'd expect better from a proffesional web design company. I've emailed them about it and no response at all.

I'd suggest they can't fix it, looks like a template based site. Just input the links and images and abracadabra presto chango your a web designer.

  15. Yeah pretty much. If they hadn't done it in Java I don't think it would have nearly the problems it has. As it is the site takes forever to load on a dialup connection. If he is paying for the service I'm going to have to suggest he cancel it.

I have 326K here, that's almost an entire minute on a 56k. Another thing to point out is it's frame based..... I could probably create a page like that less that 75K....

Edit, here's one of the problems.... no image optimization.

    62K on the site:

13K... you could even make it smaller with some slight quality loss.

  17. Yeah, and I have no control at all over that stuff. I've spoken to the guy in charge of it briefly and it sounded to me basically like he was just going to vendor sites and ripping graphics from them. I don't even know if that's legal even if we do sell the products.

Technically yes it would be illegal to use the images without consent but I would doubt they would have an issue with it as long as they were used to promote their products. I ran into the same issue with a site that I built and the company not only granted permission to use their images but sent me a disc full of them.

  19. I found out its a free part of out alliance with the company so I'm not too concerned with it. We don't need a website anyway and I surely have no time to work on it so I think I'll just ignore it altogether.
