Ok, i know SVCD's are great, DVD Quality... my friend ripped The Fast & Furious as an SVCD, crystal clear, then i burned it on regular CD-R's. played great. Well i tried to rip a dvd to an svcd format using sefy's guide, play fine as an MPEG2, but when i burn, they glitch hardcore, through the whole movie. any suggestions? Hit me on the flower if ya know

could be a ton of reasons:
1) could be crappy cd-r's...especially if you have those cheapass standalone dvd players like apex (pioneer dvd players are prolly the best at compatability and reading crappy cd-r's)
2) make sure you burn the .mpg's using Nero's SVCD template (mode 2x/a) and not just a regular data CD
3) not sure about regular CD-ROM's, but some standalone dvd players can't read burned cd-r's that are burned faster than 4X. basically, turning burning at slower speed.
4) during the burning, make sure you don't have low buffer. it will cause some glitches, i.e. green blocks, to appear. -
sounds good, lemme see if i can clarify more... i used the same CD's for FnF and for the other movies, i bought a pioneer standalone and it works great... it's gotta be something with the way i encoded them i think... I used nero, both as a VCD and the SVCD option to see if it would make a difference. when i encoded, i chose the svcd template, when i went to nero, they were just glitching to much.

Give us all the details...what is your region? PAL or NSTC? What programs are you using....etc,

ok... i used sefy's guide to dvd ripping, downloaded and ran the 3 progs he uses in there, smart ripper 2.40, then i went to DVD2AVI 1.76, and then encoded with TMPGEng 2.02.31.119... in TMPGEnc, i choose the template that goes: "Super Video-CD NTSC (MPEG-2 480x480 29.97fps CQ 65, Layer-2 44100Hz 224kbps)" i'm not sure about region but i live in the U.S.
i hope this helped -
hrm...ok....try burning at 2x and c if it gives u any problems....
when it's burning, does the buffer get really low? that might cause some problems... -
try encoding using top field first A in field order box. most movies use this setting. and all movies i have ripped glitched horribly with bottom field first used.

Ask your friend how he did it!
I only dream in black & white...

I hate to admit it but I've had the most success with DVD2SVCD .... I can't beat the quality on my own.
it's a great program - really well thought out
here is the next version

download it before it's posted on the site even -
"download it before it's posted on the site even" huh?
DVD2SVCD dl is posted..in the advanced users forum. It's beta and definitely will be changed before it's released as final.

CCE initially threw me off since a few groups release it and obviously didn't know what the hell they were doing so I thought CCE was crap quality and Tsunami ruled. Till I tried it myself, only then I found the truth and the light. -
thanx guys, big help... i'll mess around with those progs and try to figure them out.
Actually, i got confused on the "try encoding using top field first A in field order box. most movies use this setting. and all movies i have ripped glitched horribly with bottom field first used." part... if it'll work i wanna give me a shot, so can you be more thourough? i'm kinda new -
field order doesn't matter if u used Forced Film in dvd2avi...only if you turned OFF Forced Film and the source was interlaced (NTSC) will field order matter..it will matter if u use inverse telecine or your output will be interlaced, rather than with 3:2 pulldown
