ok so i followed the link (thanks BJ_M), and im at this step:

    f. On the right side, under “Value”, type in the New MAC address you want to assign to your NIC. Usually this value is entered without the “-“ between the MAC address numbers.

now here is what the window looks like:

what format do i enter the numbers in, what if the numbers are already taken?

    thanks

you can see what yours is now by opening a command window and typing "ipconfig /all" (without quotes)

start -> run -> type 'CMD' -> type "ipconfig /all" in the dos liek window

as stated - you can not change your IP except by the means given ... you can change your mac address though, which is not your IP ...

what you want to change it for anyway ?

if you need to - use a proxy and stop hanging out at pr0n sites so much that they ban you

you must not realize that if you change your IP, rogers changes it and would know your new IP as well as your old one ...

in other words -- you are shit out of luck and should not download .. you have a 60GB a month allowance ... they should not bother you for under that as downloading is (still) legal in Canada - though if it is copyrighted works - you should not do it (and will be soon not legal anyway) ...

they dont have to "trace" him through his IP - they can monitor what you are using in bandwidth what ever your IP is ... since you are going through their system ..

I suspect he went over the 60GB and they warned him about that ....

actually he was way under, about a tenth of the size, when i say dl'ing i mean I-tunes, i dont know wat he was dl'ing, but anyways he was way under, i dl hardly a gig a month. so i dont know why he was warned. (but anyways i wrote "download" in code cuz i thought we werent allowed to type the word in this forum, i didnt want it to be mistaken for w@rez) thanks

so i guess there is really no point to chaging the IP...

if he was warned in that case - it was because he was doing p2p and the riaa pick up on it .... and it was prob. for the uploading anyway ....
