Does any software exist that will allow you to encode video using a shared network drive and multiple computers and, in doing so, reduce overall encode time?

Adobe Aftereffects has a renderfarm option, but this seems to only allow the renderfarming of image sequences and not video. I'm not sure about Cinerama but I believe it's in a similar position.

Does anyone here renderfarm to mpeg2 using multiple pcs? If so - how is this done?

I believe DVD rebuilder will do this, as will Vegas.

  4. I found the following on the Sony web page describing Vegas 6:

    Network Rendering
Speed up production time by rendering complex multimedia projects over networked computers. Divide Vegas projects into smaller sections that are distributed across multiple machines, and let Vegas software reassemble the pieces into a single rendered file. Each copy of Vegas software comes with two additional render-only installations.

So you can get two additional computers to help with rendering.
