  1. I pressed the eject button on my Phillips DVP642. The tray didn't open, the power button started to blink constantly, and it's not responsive to anything (even the remote).

anyone else have this same problem? anyone know of a fix? if not, i'm thinking about just returning it.

  4. This possibly means that one or more capacitors are bad (the power supply area. I fixed one player which had the same symptom as yours.

I had this problem last month with my 642/37. I opened the unit and checked the power supply with Multimeter and found that the voltage that goes to the main board was only +4 volt instead of +12...

I had the same symptom as u mentioned.

One capacitor with values 1000µ and 12V capacity. It was little bulged at the top... I replaced this with same capacitance 1000µ but 16V and after that its working out great !!

    Thanks

I had the exact same problem myself but the original capacitor that I pulled out of the player was 1000µ and 10V rated for 105 degrees C(Philips getting a little cheap with their parts) I also replaced it with a 1000µ 16V 85 degrees C and it also works fine now. (I just hope it doesn't get too hot for my new capacitor in there) Thank you very, very much for your help maduser74, and also BlueKing. You guys saved me from replacing the whole player and the net could use more people like you. It helps us fight back the corporates that would prefer we just buy a new player. I just bought this one last Nov (2004)

These players run hot, so be sure you have a lot of open space near the player to provide heat dissipation. That might save you from having to replace the capacitor.
