  1. Can somebody tell me a software that specifically captures stills from video, that gives the best resolution from the video. If anybody can, I would really appreciate.

    Go to File-->Save image sequence...

    and select only one frame on the time line.

    I prefer VirtualDubMod. Just select snapshot from the video menu. ffdshow can also save out images, highly configureable so you can have it save out every 10th frame, a single frame, a range, etc.

    I never really used this program before, could you tell me how to start capturing stills using this program?

    If you pause the playing software , you could use Mwsnap to grab the sceen shot , and in jpg format , a lot more simpler than using virtualdubs method .

    Virtualdub dose bmp and some other format , and saving pictures is a little more complicated than previous posts , because you need to locate the picture frame or frames you want and lock the start and end frames prior to grabbing them , otherwise virtualdub will do the whole file without warning .

    Mwsnap is freeware , and handy for those who need snaps to complete guides , snap desktop , window , region , or sleected area .

    Hi everyone.

    I use power dvd to extract still image from dvd/film.

    the extraction is customizable. i just tried it maintainning the original dvd resolution and i dare to say its very good

    Multimedia Center, Power DVD, Premiere, and yes Virtual Dub.
    In Multimedia Center click the little camera icon.
    Same in Power DVD
    In Premiere Export as Frame.
    Virtual Dub.. ^ yeah what he said. lol
