  1. I might be building a mosix cluster consisting of 22 p4 systems and several slower systems. Is there any tool that runs on Linux that would use all that power, or at least some of it? I am trying to convert AVI to MPEG2

I don't know anything about "clusters", but I see dvd::rip has a page dedicated to that. Could this be of interest?

Another package you may wish to look at is cinelerra. Again, I don't know if it does what you want, nor if it runs on a mosix cluster, but versions of it are claimed to have the capability to run across multiple PCs.
