I just wanted to point out that this guide for power users on doing the conversion the long way:
https://www.videohelp.com/guides.php?guideid=699#699
is outdated, and the process no longer works. dvd2avi is obsolete. The tool that replaced it will produce the same type of file, but the pseudo-avi file produced by vfapi can no longer be read by virtualdub for some reason.

In what way has DVD2AVI become obsolete? On my system, it still does everything it's always done, and that's all I need...

True that
I'll have a look at my guide to see what can be done to bring it back to current versions.
