  1. i hope this in the correct forum.

i need to make a cd that is very compatible and can play on most set top dvd players that has a slideshow with music(or a premade mpeg/avi/wmv movie) that also contains 2 folders with pictures in common image format(jpg or bmp). it is very important that the images be kept seperate and viewable on a computer or a keyosk print station like you can find at wal-mart or a photo lab.

the disc is a slideshow of my grandmother who recently passed away with pictures i scanned from her past all set and timed to her favorite music(made in windows movie maker) so it is important that the images are easily printed for the less savy computer users. the disc will be destributed to any family member who wants one.

    any help is much appreciated.

i have tried to burn the disc as a data disc with an mpeg and 2 folders only but that didn't work in either of my 2 dvd players i tested it in.

again thank you for any and all help.

You were more on the right track with your subject title...

    Compatibility (from Best to Worst)
    DVD
    VCD
    SVCD

Slideshow Quality (w/Transitions & Music) (from Best to Worst)
    DVD
    SVCD
    VCD

If you have a DVD burner (and you know your users have a DVD player and DVD-ROM drive in their computer for printing), go that way.
Otherwise, for compatibility's sake, make a standard VCD, but add the pix in a separate folder of the (1st/"ISO") data track. This can be done quite easily with VCDEasy.

  3. If you want to have a CD with a good compatibility you have to make it in VCD (or also in SVCD). With NVE3 you can easyly make good slishows with audio background (but it works great with SVCD and it sucks with VCD, if your slideshow is too long you won't able to burn it, but only with VCD, I don't know the reason). The problem is that with NVE3 you can't add folders, and there isn't the option burn original slideshow of NVE2. So, the only way that I know to have a SVCD with audio background and original JPG is to extract the slideshow from the SVCD (use a CD-RW, or make an image and read it with Nero Image Drive or some other image drive) and then reburn it with Nero Burning Rom or VCDEasy, after adding the folders with your pictures.
You say that you have yet adding the audio to your pictures with Movie Maker, but if you convert this video to (S)VCD you will have a low resolution movie (352x240 VCD-480x480 SVCD) if you make your slideshow directly from the pictures you will have a best result (704x480 both of VCD and SVCD).
I'm sorry for my English, if you don't understand something please tell me it.
I don't know if there is some other direct way (with some player you can also just burn JPG and MP3 and you can see the slideshow with the audio in background, but if you want compatibilty this isn't for you).

  4. thank you both for the suggestions. i tried both suggestion(nero and vcdeasy and neither of them gave me the desired product. i was able to do some more searching here and found proshow gold. the wonderful app has the option to include all show media on the disc built right into the output options. i am right now as i type compiling and burning my first copy for testing... we'll see how it comes out in a couple minutes.

thank you both again for the suggestions and advice.
