    Hi,
    I've been capping and converting UK DVB programmes to XviD for a while now, so have some experience, but this one has me stumped...

    my usual procedure:
    Capped mpeg2 DVB broadcast
    PVAStrumento (to demux and compensate any audio/video frame drops)
    Mpeg2Schnitt (to cut adverts/trim any unwanted extras)
    resulting in synched .mpv and .mpa files

    normally id just convert .mpa to MP3 and .mpv to XviD (AviSynth&VDubMod)

    but with one recent cap, ive tried encoding the .mpv to XviD many times, but the resulting .avi is constantly over size (794mb instead of ~650mb).

    the .mpv contains the correct number of frames, approx. 80948, for 53min : 57seconds length
    but if i play the .mpv in BSPlayer the timecode displays 42mins 29seconds

    since i don't actually know what the 'problem' is, i dont really know how to fix it

    ive tried the following programmes with both remuxed and demuxed files to no avail:
    MPEGCorrector
    VideoReDo
    MPEG2VCR
    Womble MPeg Wizard
    Pinnacle 9
    TMPEG Plus MPEG tools

    Can anyone shed any light on what the problem may be?
    and if possible any solutions, please

    thanyou for your attention

    -kipico

    Don't know what the problem might be, but another piece of software to try is restream, which might correct any timing problems

    As for the oversizing. Is your 2nd pass larger than the 1st?

    thank you all for your replies

    @guns1inger
    i have tried ReStream
    (i tried many apps now, so cant recall them all )
    @Abond
    I use PVAStrumento out of habit, hasnt failed me until now, im not fully aware of the features of DGMPGDec, but use DGIndex to create the .d2v after correcting synch issues with PVASt
    @celtic_druid
    unfortunately i have 'discard first pass' checked, so cannot answer that particular question

    i originally assumed it was a GOP error at some point, but have subsequently tried pretty much all 'GOP fixers' going
    i tested 'timefix.exe' on the .mpv file which promptly created 37 indiviual files
    as i have no experience of this app i don't really know what that means
    tried joining all these separate .mpg's together and the resulting file is 33 seconds shorter and now BSPlayer reports it as 49min39seconds

    quite a frustrating problem now

    You don't need the 1st pass. The stats file can tell you how big the first pass would have been.
