Ok here's the scoop...
Pacific Digital Benq 1620 Bulk drive with latest firmware. G7Z9. I used to be able to write at the normal 16x with DVD+R's, no matter the media. Also used to be able to over speed the 8X's to 12X. I'm not worried about the 12-8x downgrade.... but I'm worried about the 16-8x downgrade.
Here's what I've done.
Verified Ultra DMA mode on DVD drive.
Moved DVD Drive to another channel, verified still in UDMA
Replaced the 80 pin cable
Uninstalled the IDE channels in XP (sp1a)
Defragmented all drives.
Reloaded burning programs (Nero, RecordNow and others I can't think of now...)
Used forceaspi...
It still reads and decrypts at the fast normal speed, so I don't get it. Whether I choose Maximum or not, still 8x writes on 3 different types of media, all which wrote at 16x before.
I'm running out of ideas.
Thanks,

Could be the firmware. Can you go back to the firmware you were using before? I updated my Pioneer to the newest firmware and some of my older media would only burn at 4x instead of the normal 8x I had been using. So I went back to the previous version.

Ahh, forgot that.
Went back to G7M9
Still the problem...I guess I could go back further...? -
Lots of views no comments or suggestions?
Update on status.... reloaded windows, fresh install. Also tried G7V9 firmware. No luck -
If it is not on the MB IDE, try it there, or try a friend's computer. I would also update the MB bios and the IDE drivers.
Some days it seems as if all I'm doing is rearranging deck chairs on the Titanic
