  1. Not mentioned anywhere on this forum is a piece of software called "Lets Convert" made by Canopus.

    http://www.canopus.us/US/products/Lets_CONVERT/pm_lets_CONVERT.asp

It is simple and captures to Mpeg in real time and is us$50.00, you can set it to capture up to 3 hours at best quality and combined with the picture controller or any other hardware based processor in the chain does a good job.

I have ordered a Mpeg Pro MVR Card as it does apprently do a better job of Mpeg RT Capture and should be a consideration for thos thinking of the advc300 as is similiar price.

I have come to this decision having tried the ATI AIW 9800 pro and been dissapointed.

The comment about subjective quality is bang on, one mans meat etc.

Thanks for being a great forum everyone.

Hmm it's too bad they don't have any screenshots or describe options for encoding.

As for Canopus, is this supposed to work with the ADVC-100?

  3. "2 ghz cpu reccomended for realtime mpeg capture". Software encoding during dv capturing.

Don't think you'd really need this if you have a hardware cap card. Sounds to be geared for camcorder use. Although you probebly could use it with an ADVC-100, it would most likely give you the same results you now employ.

  4. Having tried the ATI AIW 9800 pro, I can tell you the results using the advc 300 with the picture controller and Lets Convert are better, again a possible subjective view.

I have ordered the Mpeg Pro Mvr card from Canopus as it seems the best way for mpeg RT cApture without spending 1000,s of dollars, we shall see.
