  1. Why 2 different outputs from ASPI checker programs?
    I am
having troubles installing ASPI LAYER 4.
I have 2 programs from Adaptec for checking the information on the installation .
Program one is a download directly from Adaptec

In the Adaptec program it lists the following:
    Operating System: Win98
    Installed component: APIX.VXD WNASPI32.DLL
The area where it said "ASPI properly installed and fully operational" seems to be grayed out.

Program two is a download from another site and it saids Adaptec ASPI Windows 95.
    Operating System: Win98
    Installed component: APIX.VXD Aspienum.vxd WNASPI32.DLL Winaspi.dll
The area where it said "ASPI properly installed and fully operational. One host adapter has been detected " is not grayed out.

Why do I get two different results??

How many componets need to be loaded ? 2 or 4 ??
    SeeYa
    Thanks

Are you installing 4.6 or 4.71a2?

  3. in prog #1 its grayed out because your missing 2 drivers. in program #2 its problly not grayed out because its for win95 which uses different drivers.
so to fix #1 you need to install new aspi drivers and i would suggest not using the newest availble at adaptec use 4.70's

Thanks for all the help. What it turned out to be was that I must have had a bad install of Win98. I reinstalled Win98 and on the first try it took the ASPI install. I am using the version 4.6.0.102

Just out of curiosity do you know what the difference in file that Ver 4.71a and Ver 4.6.0.102
Both of them share the 2 files
    wnaspi32.dll
    apix.vxd

What are the other files for version 4.71a??

I have been working on getting this right for 2 day and I think it was all called by my install of my sound card. I noticed that there was reference to a older dll being replaced when I installed the sound card. So it seem that the sound card and a bad install of Win98 seem to be the problem.

Once again thanks for the help.
