    Hi Guys
I've been burning cds using my dvd burner for a long time. Suddenly few months ago my burner just stopped burning cds but it still burn't dvds. I use nero for burning cds. Everything goes alright, I get the confirmation from nero that the burn't process is successful but when I check the cd there is nothing on it even though I can see the burn't tracks on the cd. I thought it was either computer or software problem so I formated the computer and installed nero again but had the same problem. I have this problem with other burning softwares as well including windows inbuilt burning software. I've got a pioneer dvd burner. please help

It sounds like something pretty fundamental.

First test - take the burner out of your machine and put it in another one. If it doesn't work there, then you know it's time for a new one. If it does, then it's time to reformet, not install Nero, and get something new.

But it works just fine in burning the dvds and I just checked that if I copy a cd it works then as well. It just doesn't work when I try to burn individual files in a cd

  5. It could be the laser, there are 2 lasers, one for cd's and 1 for dvd's. The cd laser may have went bad. Best way to fix it is with a new burner.

The laser can't be damaged because when I copy a whole CD it works just fine. it's only when I burn individual file that I have a problem. I've already tried burning at a reduced speed but it still does'n work

What type of CD are you burning ? Data ? Music ? CD-ROM (UDF) ?
    If in doubt, Google it.
