  1. I did a serach on this topic and found nothing so started a new post topic. Using VDub to pull audio from a video file and about 1/4 way thru I receive an error message can not write to file (name of file) Request could not be performed because of an I/O device error. What does that mean and what can I do about it. Thanks a bunch

It could mean a lot of things. Basically it momentarily lost contact with the drive or the file it was writing to. Just like unplugging a drive during a data transfer.

Mechanically, could be a bad cable or a failing drive. In software, bad instruction to or from the drives, or interruption of the data stream by other software. Try writing to a different location or a different drive. Don't put the folder being written to too far down inside other folders.

Some things to check; make sure the drive is defragged and not overly full. Make sure background programs aren't running that take over the drive, such a antivirus software.

The type of error is so generic, it's hard to pin down.

  3. I tried most of your suggestions and still can not get the audio extracted. I closed all other software, even my internet, anti virus, and firewall. I have never had this problem before. I still get the same message "failure streaming AVI file The request could not be performed because of an I/O device error" I tried two other files and they worked just fine so I can only assume it has something to do with the particular avi file I am trying to pull audio. Any more ideas or suggestions
