I need to broaden my horizons when it comes to music
All my family photo slide dvds sound the same

What are some of your favorite "modern?" songs/music that fit the scene for general overlay, or do you actually edit some music?

(I'm not really into the Blues Brothers Elevator music either) although it is stuck in my brain from all those years ago.

    Hi garry,

What I'm gonna say depends on how imaginative and creative you are...

I arrange the pictures into a rough sequence and play them back with no audio and get a feel for what kind of music would fit (ambient background, high energy etc.) and then pick that from a library of files I keep on my PC.

Some recent examples of what I've used:

Wedding video (OK, not a picture slideshow but would be OK for that too)
    Artist: Zero 7
    Album: Simple Things
    Track(s): Polaris, Destiny & Others

The above are also good tracks for general background music.

    Artist: Morcheeba
Album: Parts of the Process (this is a best of)
    Track: The Sea

    Skiing - Action Shots
    Artist: Blur
Album: Unknown, but I know it's on "The Best of Blur"
    Track: Song 2

    General - Medium Energy
    Artist: Foo Fighters
    Album: One by One
Track(s): All My Life & Others

    General Ambient
You can;t go wrong with classical music - there's loasd of CDs along the lines of "Classic Classical Music" etc.

I tend to keep all of my favourite tracks in the library I mentioned (just a directory on my PC) and then look through the files by name thinking "Ah! I haven't heard that for ages, that's be good!" and then try a few out.

Hope that helps, and good luck...

  3. I just paw thru my MP3 collection until I find something that fits the mood or theme of the slideshow.

Try to stick with instrimentals. It's hard to match lyrics with images, though it's nice when you can. Also it's nice if you sync the image transitions to the beat of the songs.

At first I thought WTF you Cockney Pommie, you are making me do some work here looking for "song 2" on some album.

But I had a good chuckle when I did find "song 2" It's legit !

Looks like I am going to have to beat up some of my junior staff for their CD collections.

Some music I have used in the past includes "True" Spandau Ballet , "Searching for the Holy Grail & I get knocked down" in a rugby photo/video mix for a mate (yes I know it's probably overdone), "Bittersweet Symphony" for sombre moments & "Great Southern Land"Icehouse

Any others along Daamons lines would be appreciated as "I am trying to broaden my horizons outside the skope of my "mundane" cd collection (which I like!)

    Nice...

I've used the intro to "Bittersweet Symphony" for panoramic shots of mountains and nice scenery.

Have fun beating your juniors up...

    Hi garry,

I've thought of some more music:

Pretty much any track from Enigma's MCMXC A.D. album for some great chilled background music.

Then there's Faithless for some more upbeat stuff. Some is quite dancy, but some is suitable - depending on your taste.

I can't believe I didn't mention Pink Floyd as an artist - check out their Echoes - The Best Of album. Other classic albums of theirs (for background music) are:

    Dark Side of the Moon
    A Momentary Lapse of Reason

    Enjoy...
