  1. Hi guys,

I'm trying to encode a 30Min DIVX/AC3 Video file to DVD, using TMPEGEnc Xpress it takes more than 5 hours to finidh the job.

I know WINAVI can do it super fast, but the problem that it is so limited, you cannot control the quality, when you choose high quality the file size will be huge.

do you know any other software which can do it faster than TMPEGEnc but still has the advanced options like choosing the aspect ratio and changing the bitrate ... etc.

    thank you in advance.
    J

  3. CCE + Avisynth for resize and frameserving is probably (one of ) the fastest solutions

Mainconcept mpeg encoder! but the aspect ratio/keep aspect ratio/add black borders is not as simple as with tmpgenc.

You can also use cinemacraft encoder basic, but it requires that you resize with avisynth and frameserve.

  5. WinAVI is probably the fastest but not the best. It also uses some very weird compression strategies. I've watched the graphical bitrate display during a movie encoded with WinAVI and it's VERY strange. I've seen the bitrate peak at over 11mb/s on my Panasonic player - way out of DVD spec. I'm not sure how how accurate that is but I can confirm that the bitrate was high enough to choke the audio on my 1997 Sony player intermittently. I think the WinAVI developers need to dial back their max. bitrate encoding parameters - especially when doing direct 5.1 audio encodes.

Maybe if you try this freeware VSO DivXToDVD, you would find that you do not need advanced options for your kind of a job (30Min DIVX/AC3 Video file to DVD).
Depending on your CPU, it would convert it in approx. 20-25 minutes.

Second vote for DivxToDvd. The sucker is FAST. Second is FFMPEG, followed by FreeEnc.

    isn't divxtodvd based on ffmpeg?

Winavi probably is the fastest but as so well pointed out by civuck ( Thanks civuck because this is exactly answers my problem about occasional choking of sound on DVD players which I have asked in this thread on the same forum
    https://www.videohelp.com/forum/viewtopic.php?t=267810
    Thanks a lot)
If this is solved Winavi is great because I have tried so many others including DVDsanta but they suffer one problem or the other VSO DivxtoDVD is good but no subtitle support. In Winavi I get this choking problem only with AC3 5.1 channel Divx or Xvid file
Thanks civuck you have indirectly answered my question. Because I had emailed the Winavi support and they asked me to change my DVD player
so I will forward your analysis of the too high bitrate beyond DVD specs

Baldrick - I believe you are correct. They are both based on the libavcodec.

Actually it's simple, just not intuitively obvious. You sort of go "Huh?" for a long time and then you go "OH!" and it's easy.

You can also use cinemacraft encoder basic, but it requires that you resize with avisynth and frameserve.
Watch out! Adam and the CCE police will now be in here telling you that EVERYTHING in CCE can be done through the GUI, and how DARE you bash CCE without knowing everything, and WHAT ON EARTH possessed you to insinuate that you have to learn a complex scripting language to use CCE!

what he means is that resizing is now included w/ CCE since the newest version ... and you dont need avisynth

Gurm, as long as you don't make inaccurate statements, there will be no need for anyone to correct you.

And as long as you cease trolling, there will be no reason to issue you a warning.

Ouch. Threats? It's not my fault you're on the Custom Technology payroll. Just 'cuz you have authority doesn't mean you're allowed to threaten me for being sarcastic about your continued hostility. *shrug*

You are in breach of the forum rules and are being issued with a formal warning.

And there is nothing preventing me from issuing you a warning for your hostility in this thread.

    back to the topic.

gurm: i'm still at huh? with mainconcept...

  16. I believe Gurm is confused with the CCE versions. More recent releases of CCE SP can do it all for you, CCE Basic is as the name states more basic and requires the use of for example AviSynth for some tasks. Baldrick was very obviously talking about CCE Basic, thats most probably why he used the word basic. I havent seen any posts by Adam saying CCE Basic can do everything, but if you can link to some posts i'll have a look.

thor300: cce basic can also resize...I thought it was just the sp version. So ignore my last comment about it.

a note on resizng using encoders - I don't know on CCE resizing as i never tried it but the main concept and procoder resize filters are not very good -- more for speed than quality ..

  19. Yes, procoder needs better resizing and a add border filter.
    Quality is my policy.

  20. Ok baldrick. Youre right, there is a resize checkbox, but thats all From the help file about the resize: "You cannot specify any size and rate you like, however, you can change TV type." So at least its much more limited than SP even if it got what the OT asked for.
But anyway, i was wrong, basic can do (almost) everything, really best bang for the bucks even without Avisynth! That should make someone happy

Cool! Let's get into a pissing contest that will end up with you banning me!

You're an arrogant SOB, and you're upset because I've called you on your snuggling up to CCE. Grow a pair and admit what your stance is. You can't be for something and then get mad when someone pokes fun at you for being for it. That's called "hypocrisy". 'Course that never stopped politicians or churchmen, either.
