  1. Hi,

I have an (old) Toshiba SD 220E DVD Player, and an mp3-Player in my car (Mazda6). I have the same problem with them. They will not play some of (not same) the mp3-files. Few files are not playable in my car, few in DVD-Player.

I think, it has to something with the quality/attributes of the files. I am alomost sure, that my DVD-Player doesn't plays a file if the bitrate is below 96bit/sec.

Can someone tell me, what are the "standard" attributes for mp3 files? Of course, I mean, which files/attributes are the "simpliest" to play for dvd-players and stand-alone mp3-players. What types of attributes usually the dvd-players can not deal with?

My next question is, how can I ensure/check/change those attributes? Any suggestion for freeware tools? I found this tool: 4Musics MP3 Bitrate Changer. I would change those unplayable mp3-files and burn them again if neccessary.

Actually, I would like to convert all of my mp3 to make them as siple as possible, so any mp3 or dvd-player can play them, but I don't know how to do it, what are the options, what tool to use it.

I would be very thankful if anybody could give me some tipps.

    cheers
    cumi

Well for max compatibility you should probably avoid VBR encoding. Although my car head unit (Alpine CDA-9851), DVD players (Zensonic, Pioneer & Nintaus) handle VBR files fine. Could be an issue with older equipment. Never tried anything below 96kb.

I guess 320k could also be an issue so I guess between 96 and 256 CBR should be safe.

  3. Can you suggest a good (freeware) Programm, that can display all the possible Attributes of an mp3 File?

You really need to look at the requiremenst for each player, as they are not all the same.

Sure, but if you stick with 96-256k CBR and only use ID3 1 tags then it should work fine on anything. Also probably stick with 44.1KHz 2 channels.

Mr. Questionman is a usefull app, although I wouldn't say that it displays all attributes.

    hi,

I usually go for 192 bitrate (quality). I use cdex for converting music's cd's to mp3 and I change it to 192, Hight quality, joint sterio. and 44100. If I am just getting mp3's and I am not able to find one with 192. I record it to 192, 44100 with mp3directcut. I also have mp3's players and it works great for mine and mp3direct cut and cdex are both freeware and no spyware.
