HP DVD 200j - Power calibration error

I've tried burning a vide cd's and dvd's and recently I've been receiving the following error on nero: "Power calibration error" and no other software will work, i've tried different brands of cd-rs and dvd-rs, nothing has worked.

That is what my plextor said when it wanted replaced!
Seriously though, that is a drive generated error and if using different media doesn't help, then its time for a new one or a service call for the old one.
edit -Does slowing down help? My plextor limped along at 8x for almost a year!

Hrmph, it seems to work fine when I put it down to 2x, damn I guess its time for a new burner..

Have you cleaned the lens?

Also if you are not using firmware 1.72, depending on how old your current firmware is, you may face compatibility issues with 4x or 8x media.
