  1. I have a power point presentation on a CD that was played at my Dad's funeral. I would like to know if there is any way to convert this power point presentation to MPEG II to convert this to a VOB file for burning on a DVD that can be viewed in my stand-alone DVD player? Thanks, Foz

    Hi Foz,

I've never used it, but seen it recommended a few times: PowerPoint2DVD

Sorry to hear of your loss.

  3. daamon, Thanks for the link and sympathy note. I have looked at the program and it has 3 mixed reviews, but I may download it and give it a try. Thanks again, Foz

I did try this but found that the quality was appauling.

The only way I succeeded was to re-write each frame using a graphics package (Paintshop Pro) and saving each "slide" as a jpeg. I then dropped them into Studio, added transitions to emulate the changes in PowerPoint and bingo!

A project like yours is worth a little effort

    Good luck

I know I speak for the community at large here in wishing you our profoundest sympathies on your loss, Foz.

Y_not's suggestion is a good place to start. Let us know how you made out, ok?

And he's absolutely correct stating that this project is definitely worth a little extra effort...

    Best wishes, mate!

    Hi Foz,

I looked in the same section as PowerPoint2DVD to see if there was anything else, and a completely different approach occurred to me:

Play the PowerPoint presentation full screen on your PC, and then use something like:

    AviScreen Classic
    CamStudio
    CapturePad
    Hypercam
    HyperSnap-DX

To capture the on-screen presentation to an AVI file and then encode that to MPEG2 for DVD authoring.

I've never used any of the apps, so can't recommend one. Some are free, others cost around US$35. The only one I've ever heard anything about was CamStudio (free), and it sounded good.

If you get the option to pick a codec for encoding the AVI, I'd say use no less than DV AVI or, if you've got the space or the presentation isn't too long, go for a lossless one like huffyuv.

But DV AVI should easily be good enough, and will take up a lot less space.

    Good luck...

  7. To All, I just want to thank all of you for your information and kindness. I am really impressed that there are so many helpful and nice people on this forum. I had also posted on the Dell Community Forum and the reply was "that it was an easy Google search and to try that before posting" Maybe the guy was having a bad day, but I did look on Google, and have a hard time finding concrete answers to anything on there. Thanks again. Foz

Well, Foz, you know where to come in future...

I typed "convert powerpoint mpeg" into Google and it returned some useful looking hits. Try the same, and check 'em out...

Also, "convert powerpoint DVD" might be a useful search too.

If you find a good tool, can you report back coz there's not many in this site's "Tools" list (only one I think).

    Have fun...
