  1. I have some DivX files.

    I want to edit them.

I have installed several DivX codecs on my computer, so I can definitely watch and view the files in Windows Media Player.

But whenever I try and load the DivX videos into TMPGE -or- Virtualdub I get the error message:

    "...invalid audio..."

And then it seems to be alright, When I hit the "play" button in Virtuadub to start editing,I get this error:

"Videosource AVI Error: The source image format is not acceptable. (error code -2)"

    And in TMPGE:

    "File D/:... avi. Not supported"

I just want to extract a few clips from the DivX files. Maybe 20-30 seconds each. Just as I would from a normal AVI/MPG file

    Some help please?

A google on that error gave me these:

Seems to suggest that you might want to try Virtualdubmod instead ... the fact that it tells you "invalid audio" suggests that it's not the video causing you issues - maybe you don't have the audio codec installed ? The best way to see what audio is installed is using GSpot or AVICodec. They should be able to tell you if you have a compatible codec loaded.

As for TMPGEnc's error, www.videohelp.com/tmpgenc.htm#problems might have some solutions.
    If in doubt, Google it.

  3. "File D:/2.AVI.... ......can not open or unsupported"

This is the error I am getting in TMPGE Plus

Why am I getting this error message?

I have downloaded every divX codec I could find, and I can WATCH the file on Windows Media Player.

But I keep getting this error?

    What is going on?

I have tried VirtualDubMOD as well, but no luck

Did you look at the link I provided ?

    from https://www.videohelp.com/tmpgenc.htm#problems:
If you get an error message when opening like file unsupported or can not open or is not supported
or you get an empty(black) video preview window
or the video look wierd in the video preview window like green or purple or pink

Try first to change the directshow codec reader priority settings in TMPGEnc under Option->Environmental settings->VFAPI plug-in and right click on the DirectShow Multimedia File Reader and increase the priority to 2 or to the top of the plugin-list and try reopen the video.
If that does not help be sure that you have installed DivX or XviD or MPG2 or DV Codecs, read here how to identify what codecs you need.
To convert from DV video you may need to install the Panasonic DV Codec.
To convert from DivX/XviD video you have to install a DivX/XviD Codec, you may need both DivX 3.11 and the DivX 4 or 5.
To convert from QuickTime MOV videos you must download the QTReader.vfp and copy it to the TMPGEnc folder.
To convert from MPEG2/SVCD/DVD videos you may need the MPEG2 Plugin or a MPEG2 Codec/Player.
To convert from DivX/XviD with AC3 Audio install the AC3 ACM Decompressor.
To convert from MKV install the matroska / MKV Codec.
To convert from OGM install the OGG Vorbis DirectShow filter/ OGM Codec.
    If in doubt, Google it.

    Thanks! That did it!

For whatever reason though... When I burn these, the sub titles run off the screen! When I watch them on the computer, they are fine! But in 3 seperate DVD players the sub titles are cut off on the left and right of the screen.

I am burning a DivX files that has sub titles as part of the video already. It's like it is enlarging the picture or something when it burns it??

    Any advice?

Look up "Overscan" in the Glossary, or do an all-forums search on it
    If in doubt, Google it.
