I can give it a try, but please don't bash me too hard if my polls start to suck :P
And by the power invested in me by the VideoHelp.Com administration staff, MeDiCo_BrUjO will be known from this day on as Poll_Boy#2, until dead, or promoted (or banned due to sucky polls).

    AVI? eww

I'll wait for 70mm. Want to see how all HDTV studio element production (Sony HDCAM SR) looks in 70mm. There is no film in this film except the release print. All HDTV and CGI.

I guess nobody cares about the technical milestone.
This "film" didn't use any film during production.

This has been a 20yr. goal of G Lucas and the video production industry.

Well true, up to a point, but this movie uses HDTV in a more film like way. All production elements are shot directly in 4:4:4 RGB 1920x1080 24p rather than converted to progressive. The camera now produces digital intemediates directly. While the final film is 4kx4k, it is made up of many of these 2kx1K elements mostly shot against green screen.

35mm film cameras aren't yet obsolete for full screen cinematography, but Lucas and Sony are making major leaps in productivity for this type of movie.

The NAB intro of the Panasonic AG-HVX200 (DVCPRO-HD) and Sony HVR-Z1U (HDV) bring similar 1080i and 720p (1280x720) progressive technology to the little guy with prices under $10K.

These cameras and midlevel computer editing packages make small scale movie, advertising or episodic HDTV production possible with order of magnitude lower production budgets. New HDTV/HDV versions of most major editing packages were also intro'd at NAB.

About Lucas and HD Cameras, Rodriguez uses them a hell of alot better than Lucas. I didn't know Once Upon A Time In Mexico was shot digitally. And seeing Sin City in a DLP theater was great. Just shows how far some directors can push the craft and put together a nice product visually and storywise.

BTW, I suppose it's occured to a lot of people, but the acronym for Episode 3 is Star Wars: ROTS. Either it shows that Lucas is surrounded by Yes Men in marketing, or he's finally sticking one to the Fans. :P

I'm glad I made myself DVD's of the Original Trilogy (Non Special Edition) to watch. I guess Lucas never heard the term of overworking a piece of art.

TOP GUN DUDE!, that was an awesome movie. It made me want to be a pilot when I was a kid.

A little embarrasing but I have no idea what 4:4:4 RGB is, maybe color signal? 1920x1080 is the resoluton, that's HD. 24p is 24 progressive frames per second.

Back to the poll, can't see it that day as I am working all day. Will try to see it Friday but theaters in downtown Chicago open at 1 or later and will be full.

DV format (5x compression) is 4:1:1 (NTSC) like this

    Y 8bit 4 means fully sampled in Horiz Line @ 720 samples
    U 8bit 1 means quarter sampled in Horiz Line @ 180 samples
    V 8bit 1 means quarter sampled in Horiz Line @ 180 samples

Digital Betacam format (2x compression) is 4:2:2 (NTSC) like this

    Y 10bit 4 means fully sampled in Horiz Line @ 720 samples
    U 10bit 2 means half sampled in Horiz Line @ 360 samples
    V 10bit 2 means half sampled in Horiz Line @ 360 samples

HDCAM SR uncompressed (4:4:4 cinema mode)

    R 10bit 4 means fully sampled in Horiz Line @ 1920 samples
    G 10bit 4 means fully sampled in Horiz Line @ 1920 samples
    B 10bit 4 means fully sampled in Horiz Line @ 1920 samples

During post production another layer is used to define transparency
A 10bit 4 means fully sampled in Horiz Line @ 1920 samples (alpha)

Normal TV HDTV is YUV 4:2:2 compressed

Full Digital Cinema is 4000 samples x 4000 lines (aka 4kx4k)

I think this movie will be worth viewing, it would be great to see how Vader was finally born and all, however I am going to wait probably a week or two after its release because I don't like crowded theaters and annoying people. Going during the week will be best for me since the noisy brats are in school and most others at work. Less crowds, the better. Last time I went to any theater was when Halloween H2O came out.
