    HI all

I am relatively new to all of this and I am currently using DivX to DVD converter to handle all of my MPG/AVI --> DVD conversions. However, I recently spent 4 hours waiting for an AVI file to convert to DVD format, only to find that when it came to actually putting it onto DVD, the resultant file size was too large (about 200mb over the approx 4.4GB threshold).

So my question is: Is there a way to determine what the VOB files (Etc) size will be before beginning the conversion from AVI/MPG? Obviously, this would save a lot of time in future should I come across this problem again.

Any information/links/advice, etc would be appreciated.

    Cheers

  2. The size of an mpeg depends on the running time of the video and the bitrate at which it was encoded, nothing else. Use a bitrate calculator like the one here to determine what bitrate to use for a particuular movie length (assuming the tool you are using allows you to set this!)

If you are only a little over the size of a DVDr, you can author to DVD anyway and then use DVDshrink to bring it down to size.
