    I'm pretty sure its possible, but I can't seem to figure out what software to use. Also, what video formats are convertable?

    If you have adobe photoshop you can use the included Adobe ImageReady.

    or try a avi to gif google search.

    mplayer can play just about any video format and if you use -vo gif89a it can convert it.

    I use Gif Movie Gear and yes, they have to be in AVI format to convert. Also, they can't be huge files or the program will freeze up. Trying to open large graphic files is memory intensive. Even Photoshop will refuse to open too many images at one time.

    I assume you just want to make small 10 or 15 frame gifs (or less) since an animated gif is much larger in file size than a compressed avi (even an optimized gif)
